How to easily replace the flint of your lighter by yourself? Our tutorial will help you to master this important step so that you will be able to use your pipe lighter for a while...

Why should I put a new flint in my lighter?

Pipe lighters with a flint ignition system are famous for their reliability. The way it works is really simple: a corrugated steel wheel scratches a flint made from an alloy of iron and mischmetal. Unlike electronic lighters, these will not be affected by humidity, and the spark produced is powerful. Even though a flint can last for a long time, you still have to know how to change it if you ever need to do so. Your pipe lighter does not light up? There is no spark? Do not worry, you may just have to change the flint. It is absolutely normal that the flint wears out and that you have to change it from time to time.

How to change the flint of my lighter?

Our recommendations will allow you to replace the old flint of your lighter with a new one. Here is, step by step, how to do so:

  1. I find where the flint is
  2. I remove the old flint
  3. I replace it with a new flint
  4. I put the flint in the dedicated compartment
  5. I put everything back
  6. My lighter can now properly work

1. I find where the flint is:

The flint is in a cylindrical compartment near the gas supply. You therefore have to gently unscrew the lid of the compartment. A spring pushes the flint towards the wheel, and you should therefore be careful when unscrewing the lid so that it does not spring out.

2. I remove the old flint:

Once the lid has been removed, let the flint slip off its compartment. To do so, tilt the lighter to the side. Be careful not to lose the lid and the spring.

3. I replace it with a new flint:

Choose a new flint to replace the old one. On www.pipeshop-saintclaude.com, we propose different types of flints for lighters. For example, the "Alfred Dunhill" (blue box) flints will be perfect for a lighter of the brands Corona or Sarôme. Of course, they will also fit in Dunhill lighters (Dress, Gemline, Sylphide and Unique). If you have a Dunhill Rollagas lighter, you will have to choose the flints in the red box.

4. I put the flint in the dedicated compartment:

Slide the new flint in the dedicated cylindrical compartment. There is no specific direction to put the flint.

5. I put everything back:

Once the flint in place, you can put the lid back on the lighter. Be careful with the spring, that may exert significant pressure, and you should therefore hold it firmly.

6. My lighter can now work properly:

Screw the lid back on as much as you can. Et voilà! In a few minutes only, you have replaced the old flint of your lighter, which is now ready to be used again!
