ALL PIPE SILHOUETTES

Billiard:

Billiard shape

Pros:

  • Really easy pipe draft
  • No (or very little) humidity inside the pipe
  • Easy everyday cleaning thanks to its straight shape
  • Excellent hold in hand

Cons:

  • Heavy when in the mouth. However, it is very pleasant when in hand.

A timeless classic that every pipe smoker should have! It is a typical shape of Saint-Claude's pipes.

Bulldog:

Bulldog shape

Pros:

  • Easy pipe draft
  • No (or very little) humidity inside the bowl
  • Very easy cleaning, a pipe cleaner can easily go through
  • Very good grip

Cons:

  • Because of its straight shape, the pipe can be heavy under the tooth.

The squared shape of the shank is very  original! You will easily recognize it. This pipe shape is also sometimes called Haiti. You will also find bent Bulldog pipes. Most of the time, we talk about a Rhodesian when the shank is rounded.

Canadian:

Canadian shape

Pros:

  • No (or very little) humidity inside the bowl
  • Easy pipe draft
  • Very easy cleaning with a pipe cleaner or a cleaning rod
  • Very pleasant to hold in hand

Cons:

  • The pipe can be rather heavy under the tooth, because the weight of the pipe is on the bowl's side.

The briar shank is particularly long on this model. It is a very pleasant pipe to smoke, because the smoke has the time to cool down on its way along the shank. The smoke will therefore be softer in mouth. This shape is pretty rare, because the ebauchon must be big enough and of good quality.

Lovat:

Lovat shape

Pros:

  • Really easy pipe draft
  • No (or very little) humidity inside the pipe
  • Easy cleaning with a pipe cleaner
  • Very pleasant grip

Cons:

  • The pipe can be rather heavy under the tooth but is actually quite pleasant to smoke.

The Lovat shape looks like the Canadian, but the shank is round instead of oval. It is a pleasant pipe to smoke because the smoke will cool down on its way along the shank, and will therefore arrive smoother in the mouth.

Pot:

Pot shape

Pros:

  • Thick and resistant bowl
  • No difficulty regarding the pipe draft
  • No (or very little) humidity inside the pipe
  • Pleasant grip

Cons:

  • This pipe shape is rather heavy in the mouth because the bowl is relatively thick for better resistance against the heat.

The Pot shape is ideal for smokers looking for a robust and heatproof pipe. The thickness of the wood ensures a decrease in the sensation of heat when holding the pipe in the palm of the hand.

Pros:

  • Elegant shape (flared bowl at the top)
  • Easy pipe draft
  • Pleasant to hold in hand

Pros:

  • A very pleasant shape to hold in hand
  • No formation of humidity
  • Easy pipe draft

Cavalier:

Cavalier shape

Pros:

  • Very original shape
  • Good balance in the mouth
  • The plug at the bottom of the shank that allows to collect humidity.

Cons:

  • Formation of humidity can happen because of the bent shape.
  • Difficult pipe draft.

The design of a Cavalier shaped pipe is very original. Unlike other shapes, humidity inside the pipe is concentrated in the shank instead of the bowl. You just have to unscrew the cap to easily clean the pipe.

Calabash:

Calabash shape

Pros:

  • Very elegant shape
  • Pleasant to hold in hand thanks to the flared bowl
  • Pleasant in the mouth thanks to the good balance

Cons:

  • Formation of humidity can happen because of the very bent shape.
  • The pipe draft is more difficult than with a more classical model.

The Calabash shape is one of the most sophisticated and refined silhouette that exists. Real Calabash pipes are made from African squash and meerschaum, but some briar pipes also have this shape.

Poker:

Poker shape

Pros:

  • Flat bottom (stands up on its own without the help of an additional pipe stand)
  • Original shape
  • No humidity
  • Easy pipe draft

Cons:

  • Pipes with this shape are rather heavy in the mouth, but their flat bottom allows them to be easily put anywhere.

Poker shaped pipes are very interesting because they can be put anywhere without ever falling off and spill their ashes.
